METANOIA means a change in meaning, attitude and the change of the entire inner nature. It also refers to a shift in the whole intellectual, emotional and moral direction, as well as the change in one’s actions, but especially a spiritual conversion. As a real linguistic and theological tragedy, it expresses a change of thinking that results in a fundamental shift in behaviour and lifestyle. It expresses the change of direction following one’s insight that is based on the understanding of the truth. Simultaneously, a new way of love appears with the transformation of our image of the world and ourselves. Furthermore, it refers not only to a change in intention and purpose, but also to the manner of it. Metanoia thus presents us a new vision of the future, as it guides us to a (“meta-”) area beyond our habits where our perception becomes different. Understanding its meaning is grasping the deeper meaning of learning and development. Rising above the limitations, the exhibited artists created a new form of self-expression, an artistic language born from their inner need, be it the metaphysical transformation of space, the effortless abstraction of various found objects and ideas materialised in organic and geometric sculptures designed with artistic expertise; or retaining or completely avoiding of forms and compositional principles in order for the canvas to receive the artist’s experiences, feelings and passion for the physical and expressive properties of paint unfiltered through spontaneous gestures. All this goes beyond the world of forms.
Zsófia Magdolna NAGY (1989)
The starting point of Zsófia's artworks is the frame itself that delimits the image and the frame of the boundary of the image. She is interested in the 'shape' of space. In her monochrome, modified canvases, the frame became a structure. She plays with the limits of space and plane as well as with perception. The found object is sliced and then divided into different planar shapes and polygons.
Erik TOLLAS (1981)
He examines the visual and conceptual painting methods of the visible and invisible. The process of creation is important to him, therefore he has been looking for new tools and techniques continuously. He often uses found objects and recycled materials incorporating their damage and defects, which he reinterprets. In his series, painted elements reminiscent of constructed industrial forms are mixed with collage, thus evoking a fictitious environmental landscape where nature creates its imaginary organisms from plastic, recycled fibers and laser-cut metal forms.
Antal PLANK MIRONES (1984)
His main inspiration is the world of graffiti, street art. His works include both organic and geometric lines, thus forming a bridge between these two different concepts of form. In their dynamism, colour and mass, they reflect the above-mentioned subcultural visuality. Unlike usual, however, these works step out into the space: when walking around them, they can give new and new impulses to the viewer, in fact, they create the feeling of a constantly changing wall painting. The sometimes crystal-like, sometimes origami-like plastics carry the essence of various real or imaginary creatures. At first glance, some pieces may look like a fox, a bird or some completely abstract, yet living entity...
Aliz Menta SIPOS (1994)
As a child, she painted pictures leaning towards Surrealism. After acquiring academic knowledge, she realised that the forms appearing in the material world limit her self-expression. Her goal is to keep the image completely open during free movement and experimentation, instead of the appearance of limited shapes and forms. Omitting of colours and the use of black help her to concentrate and express herself by the free flow of gestures.
Ágnes HARDI (1989)
She is concerned with the staging of her own external and internal spaces, the dramatization of order, plan, and the pursuit of accessibility. Her works are expressive, empty spaces, and at the same time naive minimalist designs. During the creation, she leaves out those elements that are an important part of the spaces for our consciousness.
